You wouldn’t think Minnesota would produce many great golf professionals considering that it is below freezing for many months out of each year. Larry Brotherton is the exception to the rule. Larry was raised in Duluth, Minnesota. He spent summers caddying at Ridgeview Country Club just blocks from his home. In the winters he ski-jumped and cross-country skied.
As a young adult he helped manage a driving range and miniature golf course in Duluth while working winters at a ski shop. In 1980 Larry attended the Lake Placid Olympics in the event of ski jumping, and then hung up the skis to move to California. His first job in California was at Irvine Coast Country Club now called Newport Beach Country Club. From there he went to Salt Creek Golf Course which is now, The Links @ Monarch Beach. Moving up the coast again Larry worked for Aliso Creek Golf Course.
Now Larry is a permanent fixture at San Juan Hills Golf Club. Larry has been named Teacher of the Year by the PGA Metropolitan Chapter in 2000 and again in 2006. Larry lives in Aliso Viejo with his wife, Jill, and has three children.
Larry is available for groups, clinics and individual private lessons.
